As the Supervisor representing the Ross Valley, one of the most vulnerable areas in the county to fires, I am acutely aware of the ever-present risk of wildfires. Therefore, I have placed a strong emphasis on programs and projects that aim to reduce the risk of fires and protect our communities.
Collaboration between fire agencies, public land managers, and high-risk areas is a crucial aspect of the MWPA’s efforts. The Fire Districts serving Ross Valley communities, including Central Marin Fire, Kentfield Fire, Ross Valley Fire, Sleepy Hollow Fire District, and Marin County Fire, work together seamlessly across district lines to serve our communities. These agencies not only respond to fires but also provide essential programs to prevent fires and support resident emergency preparedness.
These programs include defensible space inspections, fuel break and fire fuel reduction projects, CERT and Ready Marin programs. Additionally, Marin County Open Space and Marin Water, which manage the majority of public open space adjacent to our communities, have prioritized fire fuel reduction work, access, and egress and work in concert with our Fire Agencies.
Each property owner, resident, neighborhood, business, and public agency plays a crucial role in mitigating the collective risk of wildfires. FIRESafe Marin serves as the primary resource for residents, offering vital information, education, and more to support these efforts.
