Complicated permit application? We can help.

Try our voluntary pre-submittal review process.

Our Voluntary Pre-submittal Completeness Review happens here at the Civic Center in person. First make sure your project is located in unincorporated Marin.

How can the review help?

What you need to submit depends on a lot of things. It’s not always easy to predict everything you need to submit. That’s because every project is different.

If you forget to submit something important, your application could stall. No one likes surprises.

Our completeness review helps identify important things before your application process begins. Finding issues at the pre-submittal stage is very helpful. Finding issues early can help keep costs down.

Benefits

  • Avoid unnecessary delays.
  • Identify and correct plan errors before submitting them.
  • Increase chances for permit approval.
  • Save time and money.

What does a review look like?

After we receive your request for this review, we assemble a review team. The team will have people from just the right areas. Your fee will cover the initial meeting and a follow up meeting if necessary.

On the day of your appointment. Our team will meet you in room 308 to listen to your ideas and questions. They will have different questions for you depending on what they learn. Based on your plans and this meeting, we give you feedback on things you can do to make your application go smoother. We may ask you to provide documents from other agencies.

We may recommend that we meet again. The team could contact you by phone with questions too.

How do I get this review?

We have a Pre-submittal Completeness Review request form. Complete and send us the form along with your fee. The process costs $250 for the first 100 square feet of construction. We charge $2.50 for each additional square foot of construction. Next you send a copy of your plans to us.

Our review typically takes about 10 business days. It can take longer for very complex projects.

If you have any questions about the Voluntary Pre-Submittal Completeness Review (VPCR), you can contact us at (415) 499-6550.

Before you go…

If you are planning a construction project, we recommend that you consider trying this process. Avoiding delays and headaches will make you happy you tried it.
