The Environmental Health Services (EHS) division of the Marin County Community Development agency has streamlined the process to obtain building permits for property owners with septic systems.
For MAINTENANCE and MINOR IMPROVEMENT projects
Eligible projects include:
- Solar panels
- Energy storage systems
- Back-up generators
- Non-structural kitchen and bathroom remodels
- See list of maintenance and minor improvement projects
Steps:
- Visit the Online Permit Portal.
- Choose "Login to apply for a self-service permit."
The Voluntary Septic System Zero Impact Certification Form is now available for these types of projects.
For repairing or replacing an EXISTING PERMITTED project
Eligible projects include:
- Deck
- Pool
- Spa
- Foundation
- Retaining wall
Steps:
- Visit the Online Permit Portal.
- Choose "Submit plans and review permit application."
These types of projects require the submission of construction documents for review. However, applicants now have the option to submit the self-certification form in place of proceeding through EHS review.
