Property owners have joined with the County of Marin to create the Marshall Onsite Wastewater Disposal Zone. This 2007 partnership works to keep Tomales Bay safe from human pathogen contamination. This zone includes 53 parcels. 48 connect to the shared onsite water treatment system.
Background information
Each connected property has an upgraded septic tank and pump that lifts wastewater to a pressurized main pipeline. This pipe delivers effluent waste to a treatment site. Wastewater circulates through underground pretreatment and discharges to a 6-acre leach field.
Property owners, Marin County, the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the U.S. Environmental Project Agency provided funds for this project. Some property owners paid for their assessment up front. Most others pay annual assessments with their property taxes. Property owners pay an annual fee for ongoing operation and maintenance costs.
We oversee the administration of this zone. We contract with a wastewater management company to operate the system. Natural Systems Utilities- CA (NSU) is the current operator.
