Homes in these communities are currently served by individual on-site septic systems. Many of the septic systems are sub-standard and are a source of public health and water quality concern.
Background information
Faulty on-site wastewater systems near streams are one factor affecting water quality.
Property owners established the Woodacre & San Geronimo Flats Wastewater Group to study wastewater management. In 2010, we joined with this group to study alternatives to small septic systems.
The finished study described how a community wastewater system could reclaim water for irrigation.
With increased public interest and with funding from the State Water Resources Control Board, we expanded the study area. The enlarged study included parts of San Geronimo Flats.
The new study evaluated the community wastewater recycling options for the Flats area of Woodacre and San Geronimo. We also initiated an environmental impact report for the wastewater recycling project.
The community wastewater idea was paused when the San Geronimo Golf Course closed in 2017. The Trust for Public Land (TPL) purchased the 157 acre parcel in 2018. Today the land is under the stewardship of the San Geronimo Commons.
