Request a pool inspection

Applicants are responsible for scheduling inspections.

What you need to know

Timing: Request inspections at least 1 week in advance.

Cost: Covered in pool plan review fees

Steps to arrange for an inspection

  1. Figure out which inspections you need

You’ll need inspections at different stages of the construction process. The type of inspections depend on the kind of work you’re doing. Check your approval email to see the list of inspections you need. Here is a copy of the pool construction checklist at inspections. Make sure that all requirements are met before scheduling an inspection.

If your project doesn’t pass the inspection, we will give you a list of corrections and you can schedule a re-inspection once all corrections are complete. If your project passes inspection, we will give approval to proceed to the next phase or if it is the final inspection, we will give the pool approval to open. If a new pool is being constructed, approval to open will be given once a permit to operate application and fees are submitted.

There will be 4 or more inspections during the construction process:

    • Plumbing/pre-gunite (sprayed concrete) inspection - Timing: Before you cover plumbing lines with gunite.
      • Purpose: Check that exposed plumbing lines match approved plans.
    • Pre-deck inspection - Timing: Before you complete the deck.
      • Purpose: Check that deck materials and drainage match approved plans.
    • Pre-plaster inspection - Timing: After you have electricity connected to the pump room and before you plaster over the work.
      • Purpose: Check that the following match your plans:
        • Pool dimensions
        • Step dimensions
        • Handrail dimensions
        • Coping
        • Pool depths
        • Tiles
        • Pool enclosure
        • Pool equipment
    • Final inspection - Timing:  Final Inspection (Once all work is complete & California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Anti-Entrapment Compliance Form sent to EHS)

Final inspection  - Timing: Once all work is complete .
