In 2014, the U.S. Coast Guard designated one of their former housing sites in Point Reyes Station as unused surplus land. In 2019, the County purchase the site for $4.3 million from the U.S. Coast Guard with the goal of developing affordable housing. The site contains several buildings that housed Coast Guard personnel and their families, including:

  • 36 townhomes
  • 24-room barracks
  • A dining hall
  • A kitchen
  • Several ancillary buildings.

In 2020, the Board of Supervisors selected a joint affordable housing proposal from Eden Housing, Inc. and the Community Land Trust Association of West Marin (CLAM) to rehabilitate the site.

Approximately 54 units of affordable housing will be developed for households earning low-incomes and below. In Marin in 2023, a household of four earning $148,650 or less is considered low-income. Some of the units will be set aside for households earning lower incomes.
