Report possible building, zoning, or land use violations in unincorporated Marin County.

Need to know

Before you submit a complaint, understand what types of violations will be investigated by the Code Compliance team.

 

Before you start

  • Check that the property is in unincorporated Marin County. You can also look up your parcel number.
  • Have the address or parcel number, a description of the issue, and any photos ready.
  • You must provide your contact information.

 

What to do

There are several ways you can submit a complaint. Please note that you must provide your contact information so that staff can follow up.

  • Report by email

    • Submit a complaint by filling out the email form.
    • Include the property details, describe the violation, and upload photos if available.
    • Submit the form.
  • Report by mail

    • You can mail your written complaint to:

  • Staff will review your complaint and may contact you for more information.
  • A Code Compliance Officer will investigate the property.
  • If a violation is found, the County will work with the property owner to correct it.
  • Investigations can take up to several months to conduct depending on the complexity of the case. Once a case is opened, staff will contact you with periodic updates up to three months. Beyond this time frame, you can reach out to us again for additional updates if desired.
