What is the Tam Junction Placemaking Study?
In early 2025, the Marin County Board of Supervisors made Community and Economic Vitality one of their six priorities, with a focus on supporting a strong, diverse local economy. The Tam Junction and Manzanita areas combine to create a commercial hub in the unincorporated area of Mill Valley and are an important element of Marin’s economy, particularly to the Tamalpais Valley community.
The study’s purpose is to create a thriving, vibrant, and sustainable Tam Junction. The study will address community priorities around issues like community vitality, safety, circulation and access, and resiliency. . The County will work with an outside agency to design a hands-on community engagement process so residents, businesses, and other stakeholders can share ideas and work together to ensure a sustainable, equitable, and vibrant Tam Junction.
Tamalpais Area Community Plan Role
The Tamalpais Area Community Plan is the policy document for land use and zoning for the area. Its primary goals are the conservation of the semi-rural, small-town residential and commercial character and to limit commercial development to resident serving uses while protecting its relationship to the surrounding natural environment. While the community plan will not be updated as part of this project, the study will likely include options for potential changes to be carried out in the future.
