The Marin County Elections Department is not an enforcement agency regarding possible election violations. We are unable to investigate any of the violations listed below.
Listed below are resources to contact regarding suspected election violations:
- Violations to the Political Reform Act — Contact the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC): for example, mailing requirements; campaign finance disclosure; proper use of campaign funds; personal economic interest disclosures.
- Violations to laws other than the Political Reform Act — Contact the City/Town or District Attorney, or the California State Attorney General’s office at 1-800-952-5225.
- Election fraud — Contact the City/Town or District Attorney, or the California Secretary of State.
- Federal campaigns — Contact the Federal Election Commission (FEC) at 1-800-424-9530.
- Local ordinance violations — Contact the City/Town or District Attorney.
- Vandalism to campaign signs — Contact law enforcement and/or City/Town or District Attorney.
- False or misleading campaign materials — There are no enforcement agencies for these violations. These matters are adjudicated in court.
