The Marin County Elections Department is NOT an enforcement agency regarding possible election violations.
Listed below are resources to contact regarding suspected election violations:
- Violations to the Political Reform Act – Contact the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC): for example, mailing requirements; campaign finance disclosure; proper use of campaign funds; personal economic interest disclosures.
- Violations to laws other than the Political Reform Act – Contact the City/Town or District Attorney, or the California State Attorney General’s office at 1-800-952-5225.
- Election fraud – Contact the City/Town or District Attorney, or the California Secretary of State.
- Federal campaigns – Contact the Federal Election Commission (FEC) at 1-800-424-9530.
- Local ordinance violations – Contact the City/Town or District Attorney.
- Vandalism to campaign signs – Contact law enforcement and/or City/Town or District Attorney.
- False or misleading campaign materials – There are no enforcement agencies for this type of violation. These matters are adjudicated in court.
