Notice from the Marin County Registrar of Voters of offices for which offices are up for election and dates within which declarations of candidacy may be filed.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the date of the Statewide Direct Primary Election is Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at the Primary Election, candidates will be elected to the following offices, for full- or short-term seats. Full term seats are four (4) years and short-term seats are two (2) years or less.

Federal Offices

Voter-Nominated Offices

  • United States Representative, 2nd District, full-term

State Offices

Voter-Nominated Offices

  • Governor, full-term
  • Lieutenant Governor, full-term
  • Secretary of State, full-term
  • Controller, full-term

Countywide Offices (Nonpartisan)

  • Marin County Assessor-Recorder-Clerk, full-term

Qualifications: Candidate must be a California resident, registered to vote in Marin County, hold or acquire a valid appraiser's certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization within 30 days of taking office, and not convicted of a disqualifying felony. Elections Code §§ 20, 201; Government Code §§ 24001, 24002.5

  • Marin County Superintendent of Schools, full-term

Qualifications: Candidate must be a California resident, registered to vote in Marin County, have a valid certification document authorizing administrative services, and not convicted of a disqualifying felony. Elections Code §§ 20, 201; Education Code §§ 1205-1208

Marin County Board of Supervisors (Nonpartisan)

  • Marin County Board of Supervisors, Districts 1 & 5; one (1) full-term seat in each district

Qualifications: Candidate must be a California resident, registered to vote in the district which they seek to represent for at least 30 days preceding the deadline for filing nomination documents for the office, reside in the district during their incumbency, and not convicted of a disqualifying felony. Elections Code §§ 20, 201, Government Code § 25041

Special Districts (Nonpartisan, At Large)

Sanitary Districts

  • Almonte Sanitary District, two (2) full-term seats
  • Ross Valley, three (3) full-term seats

Qualifications: Candidate must be a California resident, reside and be a registered voter in the district, and not convicted of a disqualifying felony. Additional qualifications may be determined by the principal act of the district. Sponsor signatures and filing fees are not required. Elections Code §§ 20, 201; Government Code § 24001

 NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at the Primary Election, judicial candidates will be elected to the following seats, for full-term seats. Full term seats are six (6) years. Judicial candidates must have filed a Declaration of Intention in order to qualify for nomination.

Judicial Offices (Nonpartisan)

  • Marin County Superior Court Judge, Offices 1-5

Qualifications: Candidate must be a California resident, registered to vote in the state, a member in good standing with the State Bar or served as Judge of a court of record in this state for the preceding 10 years, and not convicted of a disqualifying felony. California Constitution Article VI, § 15; Elections Code §§ 20, 201

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the nomination period is open from February 9, 2026 through March 6, 2026. The official Declaration of Candidacy forms for eligible candidates desiring to file for the school and special district offices listed above are available at Marin County Elections, Room 121, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, California, from February 9, 2026 through March 6, 2026. Declaration of Candidacy forms shall be accepted for filing at the Elections Department during regular office hours weekdays from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, and until 5 PM on March 6, 2026. In the event an incumbent officeholder does not file for their district office by the filing deadline, the filing period will be extended for that district until 5 PM March 11, 2026 for non-incumbent candidates only. For more information about the nomination period and offices on the ballot, please call Candidate Services at 415-473-6437.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that before receiving nomination documents from the Elections Department, you must complete and file a Candidate Application form. If you cannot access or e-file the application, please call 415-473-6437 for assistance.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that in the event there are no nominees or an insufficient number of nominees for any governing board member and a petition signed by 10 percent of the voters (or 50 voters, whichever is less) of the district requesting an election be held is not presented to the office of the Registrar of Voters by March 11, 2026, at 5 PM, an appointment to the elective office will be made as follows: For school districts, by the Governing Board of the School District as prescribed by Education Code § 5328. For other districts, pursuant to California Elections Code § 10515.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the deadline for districts to submit ballot measures for consolidation to the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election is March 6, 2026 at 5 PM.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that vote centers open starting 10 days prior to the election on staggered schedules. Vote center locations and hours of operation are found on our website. All vote center locations will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM on Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that all ballots cast at vote centers and by mail in the Primary Election will be counted at Marin County Elections, located at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Suite 121, San Rafael, California, 94903.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the first day to vote at the Marin Civic Center and the first day for the Registrar of Voters to mail vote-by-mail ballots for the Primary Election is May 4, 2026. Marin County Elections is located at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Suite 121, San Rafael, California, 94903.
