Re: Support for AB 419, Educational equity: immigration enforcement
Dear Assemblymember Connolly,
On behalf of the Marin County Board of Supervisors, I am writing in support of your authored bill, AB 419, which would require schools to post specified information related to immigration enforcement in administrative buildings and on their website.
The publicly posted information includes “Know Your Educational Rights” guidance, developed by the California Attorney General, in both English and Spanish. It also expands existing protections for students and families, prohibiting schools from collecting information about students’ and their family members’ immigration status, unless required by state or federal law. Schools would also report to the local office of education any law enforcement requests for access or student information related to immigration enforcement.
AB 419 aligns with the goals outlined in Marin County’s 2025 Legislative Platform, such as ensuring the safety and rights of immigrants in our community, and keeping families together. Our County leaders are committed to supporting state efforts to ensure all residents and their families are able to access critical public services and education. We also know that schools provide essential, safe learning environments for residents and families who contribute meaningfully to our local communities, and this bill helps ensure they remain as secure as possible in the face of increased federal immigration enforcement.
For these reasons, the Marin County Board of Supervisors strongly supports the passage AB 419. Thank you for your continued support of immigrant communities and for your shared commitment to all residents of our state and county.
Sincerely,
Mary Sackett, President
Marin County Board of Supervisors
CC: Marin County Board of Supervisors
Senator Mike McGuire
