2026 Civilian Oversight Commission News & Updates
May 14, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission May meeting Recap
At its May 11, 2026 meeting, the Civilian Oversight Commission received updates on the hiring of the County’s new Inspector General, approved draft bylaws, and discussed continued revisions to the draft Code of Conduct. The Commission also received an informational presentation on automated license plate readers and discussed possible future study of the issue.
May 6, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission May Meeting Preview
At its May 11, 2026 meeting, the Commission will consider approving its Draft Bylaws and Code of Conduct and receive updates on Inspector General recruitment and Commission vacancies. The Commission will also receive an informational report on the Sheriff’s Office’s use of automated license plate readers and participate in a NACOLE training on the legal foundations of civilian oversight.

At its April 13, 2026 meeting, the Civilian Oversight Commission approved prior meeting minutes, received updates on key initiatives including Inspector General recruitment and subcommittee work, and discussed a potential future review of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR). March 12, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission March Meeting Recap
At its March 9 meeting, the Civilian Oversight Commission approved prior minutes, received updates on Inspector General hiring and subcommittee work, and reviewed draft Community Outreach and Engagement and Training Curriculum plans. The Commission provided feedback on both drafts, which will be refined in collaboration with the incoming Inspector General and, where required, the Sheriff’s Office.
March 4, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission March Meeting Preview
At their March 9th meeting, the Civilian Oversight Commission will receive subcommittee updates, discuss correspondence regarding Flock Safety automated license plate readers and the Inspector General hiring process, and review draft Community Outreach and Engagement and Commissioner Training plans.
February 12, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission February Meeting Recap
At its February 9, 2026, meeting, the Civilian Oversight Commission approved prior meeting minutes, and approved, with minor edits, a letter inviting the Marin County Sheriff to present to the Commission regarding the Sheriff's Office Citizen Complaint Process. The Commission formally concluded the work of the Ad Hoc Inspector General Hiring Committee, and approved the formation of an Ad Hoc Compliance subcommittee, formally moving into Phase II of the Commissions workplan.
February 5, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission February Meeting Preview
At its February 9, 2026, meeting the Civilian Oversight Commission will vote to approve minutes from the January 22 meeting, consider closing the Ad Hoc Inspector General Hiring Subcommittee as having completed its work, and consider an initial step into Phase II of the COC workplan - Compliance Monitoring.
January 27, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission January Meeting Recap
At its January 22, 2026, meeting, the Civilian Oversight Commission approved prior meeting minutes, and received reports from the Inspector General Hiring and Training Curriculum ad hoc subcommittees. The Commission reviewed draft bylaws developed by the Bylaws and Code of Conduct subcommittee and draft language for response emails and website language concerning public complaints developed by the Community Outreach and Engagement subcommittee.
January 22, 2026: Civilian Oversight Commission January Meeting Preview
At its January 22, 2026, meeting the Civilian Oversight Commission will receive subcommittee reports on the recruitment of the County’s new Inspector General position and the development of the Commission’s Training Curriculum, as well as review draft bylaws, and proposed email response and website language drafted by ad hoc subcommittees.
