Seasonal Firefighter - Engine

Seasonal Firefighters are assigned to our six fire stations across the county and work side-by-side with full-time staff.

About this position

Marin County Fire’s Seasonal Engine Firefighter Program supports our busiest time of year, May through November. Seasonal Firefighters are assigned to our six fire stations across the county and work side-by-side with full-time staff to respond to a wide range of emergencies.

This program plays a critical role in maintaining our operational readiness and meeting our responsibilities as a CalFire contract county. Seasonal Firefighters support everything from wildland fires and structure fires to medical calls, rope rescues, and vehicle accidents. During major wildfires, they may also be deployed statewide as part of strike teams.

What Seasonal Engine Firefighters do

Seasonal Firefighters are an essential part of our emergency response team. Their responsibilities include:

  • Responding to all-risk emergencies, including fires, medical calls, rescues and more
  • Supporting day-to-day station operations
  • Contributing to wildfire mitigation and fuels management projects
  • Staffing strike teams for statewide wildfire response
  • Training in order to maintain operational readiness
  • Assisting with community events and public safety education

Seasonal Firefighters are typically assigned to 72-hour shifts, composed of three consecutive 24-hour days. During late fall and winter, a limited number may be assigned to ongoing department projects or called back to support major incidents like winter storms and winter wildfires.

Why join the Engine Firefighter Program?

This role offers an excellent opportunity to build your fire service experience in a fast-paced, all-risk environment. After one full season, Seasonal Firefighters may request to rotate into other programs, including Medic 97 (ambulance), Dispatch, Defensible Space, or the Tamalpais Fire Crew.

Seasonal Firefighters bring energy, adaptability, and a strong sense of teamwork to our department. If you’re looking for hands-on experience and a step into the fire service, this is a great place to start.
