Actions
Install a secure backup system. This protects your organization’s critical systems and data.
Risk factors
A solid backup infrastructure is critical to recover from outages.
Cyber criminals target both live systems and data backups with ransomware to hold systems hostage. If a hostile party corrupts your system backups, you have no choice but to pay the ransom or accept data loss.
Recommendations
Build a backup infrastructure that does not connect to primary systems. This structure should include multiple copies of backups.
Ensure there is at least one set of backups that cannot be accessed from the organization’s network.
Consider investing in fast storage solutions with solid state drives for backup infrastructure. These solid state drives work much faster than traditional disk-type drives.
Test restoration from backups every year at minimum.
