Juvenile Charges

The phone number is (415) 473-6705. Once law enforcement officers deliver the offending minor to the authorities at Juvenile Probation Services/Juvenile Hall, those authorities decide whether your child should be released pending a future court date or whether the minor remains detained in the Juvenile Hall pending a detention hearing that occurs within 1 judicial day after the District Attorney files charges.

Juvenile traffic infractions and non-traffic infractions are now being handled just like adult traffic violations. Please wait for the Court to send you a courtesy notice and follow the instructions provided on that notice. If your child's traffic violation was more serious, and was cited as a misdemeanor, Marin County Probation Department, Juvenile Services Division will contact you regarding when you and your child must appear to adjudicate this matter.

If the District Attorney files charges against the minor, the minor will need an attorney.  Regardless of the financial circumstances of the minor, the court must appoint counsel for youths unless their families hires private counsel.   

It is important to understand that the attorney appointed works for the minor, not the minor’s family, and the attorney cannot disclose confidential discussions without the minor’s permission.
