Body of News Release

Marin County, CA – The 2027 Marin County Fair theme, Celebrating 50 Years of a Galaxy Far, Far Away..., will honor the 50th anniversary of the iconic Star Wars film series that redefined modern filmmaking and the Marin County artists and innovators who helped bring it to life.

Fifty years ago, Star Wars captivated the world. Much of that story took shape right here in Marin, where George Lucas and generations of artists, designers, storytellers and technologists built the worlds that have inspired fans ever since. The 2027 Fair, held July 1-5, will celebrate creativity, adventure and community through exhibits, art, programming and entertainment.

“We’re thrilled to bring the galaxy far, far away to the Marin County Fair in 2027 as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Wars" said Lynwen Brennan, Lucasfilm Co-President adding, "this iconic film franchise has a special connection to Marin County, where Lucasfilm has deep roots and a long history. Bringing this beloved universe to the Fair is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that local legacy while inviting fans of all ages to experience the imagination, creativity, and sense of adventure that make Star Wars so timeless. We can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with our community.”

Reach for the Stars

The Fair's competitive exhibits will feature special awards for Star Wars-themed entries across all adult and junior categories, including fine art, baked goods, quilting, crafts and more. Exhibitors of all ages are encouraged to bring their own galactic visions to life.

“The Marin County Fair invites everyone to reach for the stars, whether that’s a Millennium Falcon cake, a Wookiee-worthy quilt, a droid-inspired craft or artwork inspired by Tatooine’s twin suns. We can’t wait to see what our community creates,” said Jennifer Olvera, Fair Manager.

Exhibit guides and applications will be posted to the Marin County Fair website, in the coming months.

On the Big Screen

The original trilogy, Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), will screen daily at the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, which reopens in January 2027. Screenings are included with Fair admission.

Fairgoers can also expect expanded appearances from the Galactic Creations Initiative, with costumed characters from across the galaxy roaming the fairgrounds.
