Candidate Filing Opens for November Election

Nominations will be accepted July 15 through August 9.

San Rafael, CA – If you are inspired and feel a calling toward public service, take note that the nomination period opened July 15 for local offices in the November 5 General Election.

The nomination period ends at 5 PM Friday, August 9, with an extension to Wednesday, August 14, if an incumbent officeholder does not file. Seats open in Marin County for nomination include:

  • Marin County Board of Education, Marin Community College District, and 15 school districts
  • Special districts including community services districts, fire protection districts, the Marin Healthcare District, public utility districts, recreation districts, the Marin Resource Conservation District, sanitary districts, and water districts
  • San Rafael City Schools Board of Education and cities and towns including Belvedere, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito, and Tiburon (Candidates for these offices must file nomination documents with their respective city clerk)

Except for those running for San Rafael City Schools Board of Education and city and town offices, candidates may pick up and file their nomination papers at the Marin County Elections Department, Suite 121, Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. The hours are weekdays from 8 AM to 4:30 PM and until 5 PM on Friday, August 9.

Also, Bay Area voters have until 5 PM Tuesday, July 23, to file arguments for or against Regional Measure 4, a $20 billion affordable housing bond put on the ballot by the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) to address housing affordability and reduce homelessness. The measure will be on ballots in nine counties.

The County of Santa Clara is the lead county for the BAHFA measure. Arguments in support or opposition to the measure may be submitted by email or standard mail to the Registrar of Voters Office, Candidate Services Division, 1555 Berger Drive, Building 2, San Jose, CA, 95112.
