Marin County, CA – The candidate filing period is now open for the November 3, 2026, General Election.
The nomination period is open through 5 PM, Friday, August 7, for all candidates and incumbents to file with the Marin County Elections Department and have their names on the ballot.
The filing period will be extended to August 12 for any race where one or more incumbents have not filed by August 7; incumbents may not file during the extended period.
Seats open in Marin County range from positions with town and city offices to local and countywide special districts. The complete list is on the Elections website.
Except for those running for city and town offices, candidates may pick up and file their nomination papers at the Elections Department. The office is in Suite 121 of the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM with extended hours until 5 PM on Friday, August 7.

August 7 is also the deadline for districts and municipalities to add a local measure to the November ballot. More information about how to submit a local measure is on the MarinVotes website. For information about statewide ballot measures, please visit the California Secretary of State website.
