Body of News Release
San Rafael, CA – Counties across the country are working to address critical housing needs and services for low-income residents, and it’s no different in Marin County. The good news is that federal money is available to assist with community projects and issues. Even better: Marin residents can help prioritize where to devote that funding.
A series of in-person meetings are being planned for October (schedule below) during which residents can speak about affordable housing needs, community facilities and park improvements, and public services. The meeting dates will be announced soon, but there’s no need to wait to share opinions. To ensure broad community engagement, an online survey is available about local needs in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The survey will remain open until October 31.
Feedback from the October community meetings, focus group sessions, and survey will be used by Marin County Community Development Agency (CDA) to inform the Housing and Grants Division’s 5-Year Consolidated Plan. The new plan will go into effect on July 1, 2025.
“Our intent is to work alongside residents to develop a shared, community vision for services that are culturally relevant and assist those with the greatest need in our community,” said Molly Kron, CDA Senior Planner.
CDA’s Consolidated Plan prioritizes county specific needs for funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME). The federal funds are distributed to eligible projects sponsored by local nonprofits and public agencies. In the past, they have been used for housing, community facilities, and public services for low- and moderate-income households.
