Body of News Release

Bay Area news outlets reported Wednesday that federal immigration agents were being sent to Coast Guard Base Alameda, with operations possibly starting today, October 23.  On Thursday morning, new reports indicated that the President called off the federal deployment to San Francisco. It’s not yet clear whether that pause applies to other Bay Area communities.

The County of Marin is not involved in any federal immigration operations. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and other County departments do not enforce federal immigration laws or related civil warrants.

While the County of Marin has not received independent confirmation of the President’s decision, there are no reports of active enforcement in San Francisco or Marin at this time. Current information suggests a pause and de-escalation.

The County is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to:

  • Share up-to-date information with community members about their rights, legal support, and community resources.
  • Support safe and effective coordination of local services without interfering in federal activities.
  • Stay in contact with our city, town and community-based partners, with a shared focus on preparedness, clear communication, and supporting community members who may be affected.
