Marin County, CA – Young people are historically among the least represented groups in voter turnouts, which means their perspectives are often missing from the civic decisions that shape their communities. In Marin County, the Student Elections Ambassadors Program (SEAP) is working to bridge that gap by giving teens meaningful opportunities to learn about elections and participate in nonpartisan civic activities, even before they reach voting age.
SEAP will be kicking off the academic year with an event designed to introduce new students and reinspire returning students in the run-up to the November Election. It’s set for Tuesday, September 15, from 5-6:30 PM at the Marin County Elections Department office at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael.
Students from high schools and colleges across Marin will come together for pizza, activities, and a look at the expanded SEAP opportunities planned for this year. SEAP ambassadors take the lead on assisting with voter registration and pre‑registration outreach, organizing civic engagement events, and sharing non-partisan election information from trusted sources such as the Marin County Elections Department and the California Secretary of State’s Office.
“The kickoff is a fun and welcoming way for new students to join SEAP and for returning ambassadors to reconnect and gear up for fall outreach,” said Marin County Registrar of Voters Natalie Adona. “Parents often tell us that SEAP helps their teens gain confidence, leadership skills, and a real sense of civic responsibility. It’s a meaningful way for young people to get involved and understand how elections work in their own community.”
Interested students should RSVP for the event, but do not need to be SEAP ambassadors to attend.
SEAP is a nonpartisan civic leadership program that helps Marin students support peers in becoming vote-ready and provides opportunities to make a strong impact, build personal connections, and inspire change. Introductory videos about SEAP can be found on YouTube in English and Spanish.
The event will take place at the Elections Department, on the first floor of the Civic Center at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Suite 121, San Rafael. The recommended entry is at the Civic Center’s Middle Arch, and there is plenty of free parking.
Students with access to the SMART train can make the 10-minute walk from the Civic Center station.
SEAP is supported by the Elections Department, the League of Women Voters of Marin County, and the Marin County Office of Education.
