Body of News Release

Marin County, CA – Immigrant communities across the country are facing immense challenges to their safety, livelihoods, and access to essential services. In the wake of expanded immigration arrests, detainments, and deportations, immigrant and refugee communities are experiencing intensifying levels of fear and anxiety.

To safeguard immigrant communities against these challenges, the County of Marin has released a $425,000 request for proposals for support services including:

  • Immigration legal services (free or low-cost immigration legal representation and support including screening, affirmative representation, and removal defense); and
  • Direct support services (immediate and culturally responsive support to prevent housing instability, hunger, and related challenges) for individuals or families who have been impacted by detention or deportation.

“As a County, we have a responsibility to ensure that every resident, regardless of immigration status, feels safe, supported, and valued,” said Mary Sackett, President of the Marin County Board of Supervisors. “This investment in immigrant support services is not just about funding, it’s about and making sure people in our community have access to the help they need.”

The application period is open from July 17 through August 20. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations as well as tax-exempt community-based groups with fiscal agents/sponsors. Applicants can propose services for more than one category.

With immigrant rights at the forefront of conversations nationwide, the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution in March 2025 authorizing the County Executive to invest $500,000 toward supporting immigrant communities. The one-time allocation will bolster legal education and assistance, children and family support services, and other coordinated support services for immigrant communities across Marin to navigate the complexity and impact of federal actions.

“We are sending a clear message that Marin County stands with our immigrant communities, and we’ll continue working with our partners to ensure that every resident, no matter their immigration status, has the support and resources they need to survive and thrive” said Jamillah Jordan, County Equity Director.

In light of increased federal immigration enforcement activity across Marin, the County is also providing $75,000 of the $500,000 allocation to bolster the Marin Rapid Response Network, a community-led initiative that provides a 24/7 hotline for community members to report Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity and offers legal information and resources during and after a community member’s arrest or detention.

With the remaining $425,000 of the allocation, the County is releasing the request for proposals for support services for immigrant communities.
