Marin County, CA — The County of Marin continues to advance the bargaining process for new collective agreements with its employee groups. The Board of Supervisors formally approved three agreements during its July 15 meeting.
The first two sets of agreements are with Probation Managers' Association (PMA) and Marin County Management Employees' Association (MCMEA). The Board approved two new multi-year contracts – also known as successor agreements – for 2025-2028. These agreements include:
- Increased cost-of-living allowances and adjusted salaries to bring classifications closer to the market median.
- Enhanced benefits to support employees and their families, helping Marin remain a competitive employer in the North Bay.
The third agreement is with the Marin Association of Public Employees (MAPE). It is a one-year limited reopener, meaning the current contract was reopened for negotiation on specific topics. Updates include cost-of-living adjustments for 2025 and fringe benefits (employer paid portion of health benefit costs) for 2026.
These agreements, which follow additional agreements approved on June 24 and July 8, move Marin closer to finalizing all labor contracts for its approximately 2,000 employees across 10 bargaining units —demonstrating a shared commitment to fair compensation, sustainable benefits, and workplace stability.
The Board also approved a three-year parallel term for Marin’s 216 unrepresented employees – those who are not part of a union or bargaining group. Unrepresented employees will receive similar cost-of-living adjustments, adjusted salaries based on the market median, and fringe benefits.
“These agreements reflect our shared values and priorities,” said County Executive Officer Derek Johnson. “We are honoring the contributions of our workforce, maintaining fiscal responsibility, and building a stronger Marin for the future. I appreciate the dedication and partnership of our labor representatives in getting us here.”
Every few years, the County negotiates new labor agreements with employee unions to determine salaries, benefits, and working conditions. These agreements are part of Marin’s ongoing efforts to offer competitive pay, strong benefits, and a supportive work environment. Reaching tentative agreements with every employee group underscores this commitment and strengthens the services that residents count on every day.
