Marin County, CA – The County of Marin has reached a tentative two-year collective bargaining agreement with the County’s largest union, the Marin Association of Public Employees (MAPE), approximately 1,339 budgeted positions – more than half the County’s workforce -- which includes a wide range of crucial positions ranging from road maintenance, custodial, accounting, office administration, park rangers, nurses, jail, and health and human service workers. This tentative agreement is scheduled for consideration and adoption by the Board of Supervisors at its May 19 meeting.
The parties commenced bargaining in September 2025 and reached this tentative deal during their 28th bargaining session on April 24.
Consistent with the County’s philosophy to bring all employees up to the labor market median in this latest round of bargaining with its unions, the tentative agreement includes customized wage increases for the majority of MAPE-represented positions affecting approximately 80% of their members, and a 7% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all members over a two-year period to keep up with inflation. The package also addresses the increasing costs of health care and other financial incidentals and overall, supports the County’s recruitment and retention efforts. More details are on the labor negotiations webpage.
The MAPE agreement is the last collective bargaining agreement in this latest cycle of bargaining between the County and their unions bringing all union contracts in alignment through June 30, 2028.
“We are incredibly pleased to have reached a deal with our last and final bargaining group, completing a several-year effort to adjust our pay and benefits packages in a fiscally sustainable way,” said County Executive Derek Johnson. “We want to ensure that the County remains an employer of choice in the region that can attract, retain, and develop the employees that provide critical services to our community.”
The County of Marin employs over 2,400 employees in 22 departments. The County promotes its full-time and part-time job openings on its Human Resources Department webpage along with several social media accounts. The County also offers internships and volunteer opportunities.
