Marin County, CA – The June 2 Statewide Direct Primary Election is drawing near, and the Marin County Elections Department is poised and ready for an exciting final few days before the polls close. After Election Day, staff will process uncounted ballots as quickly as possible while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
“More people voting early means we can report results more quickly,” said Natalie Adona, Marin’s Registrar of Voters. “While we work as fast as the law and current technologies allow us to go, it is always helpful for our post-election workload when voters cast their ballot well ahead of Election Day.”
Ballots received early in the election period will be tabulated in time for the first batch of Election Night results posted on the Elections Department website shortly after 8 PM on June 2. Results will be updated no later than every 2 hours on Election Night until all ballots cast at vote centers that night are returned.
A new data dashboard on the County’s Statewide Direct Primary webpage shows that 174,641 ballots were issued in Marin County as of May 26 and that 21,156 ballots had been returned. The dashboard, which is updated nightly during election season, breaks down received ballots by date, by political party, and by source (in-person or mail).
“People who love stats and data will love this new tool,” Adona said. “We’re excited to have it available.”
Vote centers are placed all over the county for voter convenience. Secure drop boxes are available at 18 locations throughout the county through June 2. Additionally, there are 20 vote centers opening on a staggered schedule. Locations and hours of operation for vote centers and official ballot drop boxes are listed on MarinVotes.org and in the Voter Information Guide that was mailed to all registered voters.
All registered voters statewide received a postage-paid envelope along with their ballot materials this spring. Because this election includes a lengthy ballot, Marin County voters received two ballot cards. Voters should carefully review their materials and return both ballot cards together in the return envelope provided. Ballot envelopes must be signed and postmarked on or before Election Day and be received within seven days to be counted.
Voters can also sign up for BallotTrax at WheresMyBallot.com to track their vote-by-mail ballot and receive notifications when it is mailed to them and received by the Elections Department.
The Elections Department is in Suite 121 of the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. It remains open for voting 8 AM to 4:30 PM weekdays.
