Marin County, CA – The organization that monitors and scores governmental accounting and financial reporting continues to hold the Marin County Department of Finance in high regard.

The department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for the County’s 2024 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report – the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The GFOA, a nonprofit professional organization based in Chicago and Washington, D.C., grants this award to governments that embody a “spirit of full disclosure” by meeting the association’s highest standards of accuracy, clarity and transparency in financial reporting.

The award recognizes the work of the County’s accounting team, led by Accounting Unit Manager Adeoluwa Oguntope and Division Chief Anu Bagchi, who oversaw preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report detailing all financial activities for the fiscal year. Under the direction of Marin County Director of Finance Mina Martinovich, the team’s dedication to accuracy and transparency reflects the County’s ongoing commitment to fiscal integrity and public trust.

“This award reflects the dedication of our Finance team and our ongoing commitment to transparency in government,” Martinovich said. “We take great pride in presenting financial information that residents can trust and understand, because accountability and clarity are essential to maintaining confidence in how public funds are managed.”

California law requires that every local government publish a complete set of financial statements reviewed by an independent auditor. The 2023-24 report, spanning 282 pages, represents the culmination of all budgeting, accounting, and management activities conducted by County departments during the fiscal year.

The GFOA represents more than 20,000 public finance professionals across the United States and Canada, promoting best practices in government budgeting, financial reporting, and transparency.
