Body of News Release

San Rafael, CA – Marin County residents can get help lowering their utility bills by participating in the free Green House Call program.

Offered by the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity, the Green House Call program provides no-cost installation of energy and water saving devices, performed by local youth working on the program over summer break. The service is available to those living in single-family homes, duplexes, and apartments. Homeowners and renters are encouraged to participate.

The Green House Call program is offered in collaboration with the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN), and the Marin County Community Development Agency Sustainability Team.

Marin residents can sign up online for the Green House Call program or call (510) 665-1501 ext. 300. The program is open to any household that hasn’t participated in the program within the past five years. Appointments are limited and the 2025 program will run between June 24 and August 1.

For each Green House Call, residents can receive the following:

  • Home energy and water efficiency assessment;
  • Energy efficient light bulbs;
  • A smart power strip or multiple smart energy plugs or a single hob induction cooktop;
  • Foam weather tape;
  • High-efficiency faucet aerators and showerheads
  • Energy saving tips booklet.

The single hob induction cooktop is a new program offering this year and there is a limited supply. If you are interested in learning more about induction cooking, check out the Sustainability Team’s induction cooking page. You can also check out an induction hob from one of the Marin County Free Library branches.

The program aligns well with the goals of the Marin County Board of Supervisors and the mission of CDA’s Sustainability Team, both of which support healthy, safe, and sustainable communities while preserving Marin’s environmental heritage. The Sustainability Team has developed programs to promote renewable energy, address climate change, encourage green building, recognize green businesses, and implement energy efficiency projects in throughout the county. The policies and programs will ensure that Marin is healthy, vibrant and sustainable for many generations into the future.

CDA Sustainability has other programs for residents, too.
