Body of News Release

San Rafael, CAAnyone curious about how probation fits into the realm of law enforcement can get a double shot of knowledge by sharing a cup of coffee with Marin County Probation Chief Marlon Washington at Novato’s Starbucks in the Vintage Oaks shopping center on Tuesday, September 17.

Washington, who has led Marin’s Probation Department since 2020, will answer questions from 9-10 AM at 132 Vintage Way in Novato.

Probation officers work closely with people who are justice involved, victims of crime, family members of both offenders and victims, and social service agencies that partner in helping probationers rebuild their lives.

“We not only get involved after a crime has been committed, but we also work to help prevent crimes from happening,” Washington said.

Washington’s department protects Marin’s communities by conducting investigations and working with the courts on decisions pertaining to offender sentencing matters and in providing alternatives to incarceration for qualified offenders. The department supervises adult and juvenile offenders and collaborates with other law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations to ensure that court orders are enforced.
