Marin County, CA – Parents looking for after-school enrichment opportunities for their children this fall are invited to learn about the 4-H program in Marin County, designed for kids ages 5-18. An open house is set up for the evening of Thursday, September 10, at the program’s office in Novato.
Parents and other adults are being recruited, too – to volunteer and help inspire the youngsters and lead fun, hands-on classes after some training.
Operated by the Marin staff of University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE), 4-H offers projects in agriculture, science, technology, healthy living, and civic engagement at locations throughout the county. Other fun activities include crocheting, rocketry, gardening, and floriculture. Volunteers also have opportunities to develop and lead new projects.
The open house starts at 5:30 p.m. at the UCCE Marin headquarters, 1682 Novato Boulevard (near the intersection with Tamalpais Avenue / 7th Street). Visitors can meet volunteers, explore the wide variety of 4-H projects available, ask questions about the program, and learn how 4-H helps youth develop leadership, life skills, and lifelong friendships. The 2026–2027 Marin 4-H Project Catalog will be available, making it easy to sign up for projects that match a youngster’s interests.
4-H – a reference to Head, Heart, Hands, and Health – has a long and impressive track record across the nation. Since 1924, the program has helped young people and their families gain the skills needed to be proactive forces in their communities and develop ideas for a more innovative economy. Through STEM, healthy living, civic engagement, and leadership, participants build confidence, strengthen life skills, and become active contributors in their schools, communities, and beyond.
