Marin County, CA – Once a month, Marin County residents can take advantage of a one-stop pop-up shop to get answers about building permits, community planning, road closures, public safety, emergency response plans, and a lot more. The handy sessions are in Point Reyes Station, saving West Marin residents a trip to the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael.

On the second Wednesday of each month, County Services Closer to Home events are set up at the West Marin Health and Human Services Center (1 6th Street, Point Reyes Station) from 2-6 PM to help the county’s coastal and rural residents receive services, information, and advice from County of Marin staff. The next one is March 11.

Those stopping by will get one-on-one opportunities to talk with personnel from the Community Development Agency, Department of Public Works, the District Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, and the Probation Department.

“West Marin is an essential part of our county, with unique needs and strong community roots,” said District 4 Supervisor Dennis Rodoni, who represents West Marin. “These monthly events create a simple and welcoming space where residents can speak directly with County staff, ask questions, and find solutions. When government is accessible and present in the community, we build trust and deliver better results for everyone.”

Cristy Stanley, the Community Development Agency’s Permit Ombudsperson, recently worked with a contractor on an urgent situation: A home threatened by bluff erosion and requiring demolition.

“The very next day, during a Closer to Home visit in Point Reyes, we met in person,” Stanley said. “I helped complete the application, handled the paperwork, and issued the permit right there on the spot. Because we were able to meet locally, the contractor avoided hours of travel to the Civic Center and a lot of added stress. The home was safely removed with the proper permit, and the project moved forward without delays.”

The County is bringing resources to West Marin residents across all sectors, including employment services. The West Marin Connect initiative will return with a second event from 4-6 PM Saturday, April 11, at the Dance Palace Community Center, 503 B Street, Point Reyes Station. That event will focus on employment resources for job seekers, and include employers across many sectors such as government, nonprofit, and local businesses.
