Marin County, CA – Residents are invited to a West Marin community meeting on Thursday, March 5, to discuss how the County of Marin administers septic system inspections and permits under its Local Agency Management Program (LAMP). The session begins at 6 PM at West Marin-Inverness School (small gym), 11550 Shoreline Highway in Point Reyes Station.
The community meeting will be led by staff from the Community Development Agency (CDA), which is authorized by the Regional Water Quality Control Board to oversee septic system inspections, permitting, repairs, and replacement in areas without centralized sewer service. This is the first of several community meetings being held as the County develops its LAMP and considers updates to how septic inspections and permits are administered.
Septic systems serve much of West Marin, where properties are not connected to a sewer system. A septic system is an underground wastewater treatment system (consisting of tanks, pipes and treatment units) located on the property to treat all wastewater from the property. The LAMP establishes when inspections are required, how permits are issued, and what standards apply when systems are repaired or replaced. Questions about inspection triggers, upgrade requirements, and the cost and complexity of the permitting process have been raised by residents in recent years.
During the meeting, staff will provide an overview of the LAMP and the program’s update process, outline the timeline for the next phase of work, and facilitate structured small-group discussions focused on inspections, permitting procedures, and financial considerations related to system repairs or upgrades.
Additional community meetings are being planned this spring as part of the broader LAMP review process.
