Body of News Release
Marin County, CA – When home energy bills start approaching the size of a monthly rent or mortgage payment, it’s time to get serious about household efficiency. Conveniently, two free public webinars are coming up in March and April that will help Marin County residents take a chunk out of those utility bills.
March 4: Saving Energy at Home
The County of Marin’s Sustainability Team is hosting a webinar from 6-7 PM Wednesday, March 4, that will cover opt-in home energy programs, simple and inexpensive do-it-yourself home efficiency projects, and investment-grade comprehensive projects. Participants can learn about incentive and financing programs available to help fund those efforts and how residents can make sure they are getting the right rate for energy service. The staff plans to bring in a specialist from energy supplier MCE Clean Energy to answer questions as well.
This webinar will cover information that will be useful for all residents. Those who own a single-family home or rent an apartment in a multifamily building are welcome to join and learn about the available resources to help reduce energy costs.
Registration is open and required.
April 15: All About Heat Pumps
On Wednesday, April 15, the team will host another webinar specifically about heat pumps. Attendees will learn the basics of pump technology, what a homeowner needs to know before starting a project, and the benefits to indoor air quality and monthly energy bills when old gas appliances are replaced with modern technology. Even those who have already installed a heat pump can participate and ask questions about operation or technical issues.
Demand for residential heat-pump water heaters and heat pumps for space heating and cooling is growing among Marin homeowners partly because of incentive programs such as Electrify Marin, a local hub for building electrification and energy efficiency. The webinar hosts and guest speaker will not only cover all the basics but direct participants to programs that can help fund heat pump projects and provide technical assistance.
Registration is open and required.
The two webinars align well with the goals of the Marin County Board of Supervisors and the mission of the County’s Sustainability Team, both of which support healthy, safe, and sustainable communities while preserving Marin’s environmental heritage. The Sustainability Team has developed programs to promote renewable energy, address climate change, encourage green building, recognize green businesses and implement energy efficiency projects in schools, special districts, cities, and towns. The policies and programs will ensure that Marin is healthy, vibrant and sustainable for many generations into the future.
