Body of News Release
Marin County, CA – Marin County students will once again have the opportunity to speak directly with local elected officials at the 4th Annual Marin Youth Town Hall, taking place Sunday, April 26, from 2-4 PM at the Marin County Civic Center.
The student-led event invites young people ages 12–25 to ask questions, share their perspectives, and engage in an open conversation with mayors, vice mayors, and councilmembers from across Marin County. Designed to be informal and accessible, the Youth Town Hall creates a space where students can explore how local decisions are made and how they can get involved in shaping their communities.
Registration is open online for the event inside the Board of Supervisors chamber (Suite 330) at the Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. The event is free and open to Marin students ages 12–25 and their families. Refreshments will be provided.
“The Youth Town Hall creates a space where students can connect directly with local leaders and see that what they say can have a real impact,” said Elizabeth Iwamiya, coordinator of the Student Elections Ambassador Program. “It’s also a chance to find out what inspires people to pursue public service.”
“Being part of the Youth Town Hall showed me that local government isn’t something far away — it’s something we can actually be part of,” said Sophia Lopez, a Student Elections Ambassador and senior at Archie Williams High.
Meet Marin’s Local Leaders
The panel will include mayors and other elected officials from cities and towns across Marin County, continuing a growing tradition of broad representation and community participation. Students will participate in a live Q&A directly with panelists on issues that matter to them. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with peers and learn more about civic involvement.
Led by Students, for Students
The Youth Town Hall is organized by students in the Student Elections Ambassador Program (SEAP), a youth-led civic engagement initiative supported by the Marin County Elections Department, the League of Women Voters of Marin County, and the Marin County Office of Education.
Since its founding in 2018, SEAP students have registered thousands of new and future voters across Marin, helping build a culture of civic participation among young people. With youth voter turnout still lagging behind other age groups, SEAP aims to empower students with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to participate in democracy.
