Summary
Staff report from June 13, 2023, presenting the findings and recommendations from the AB1185 Community Outreach Working Groups, which were established to explore options for civilian oversight of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. Convened in August 2022 by the Office of Equity and the Human Rights Commission, the Working Group consisted of 15 community members representing all five supervisorial districts. Their task was to review the oversight models outlined by Assembly Bill 1185 and provide recommendations based on community input. The report also details the role of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE), which guided the Working Group by offering expertise on best practices and successful oversight models from other jurisdictions. The staff report concludes with a recommendation for the Board of Supervisors to accept the report and provide policy direction on how to move forward with establishing oversight.
