As of August 1, 2025, the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) discontinued its DoD Fax Service. Please read the following notification to county elections officials from the California Secretary of State.
Additionally, several countries have suspended or otherwise limited mail service to the United States. The country where you are currently living or stationed might be impacted. For some U.S. voters, this has made returning a voted ballot more challenging than in past elections.
In California, military and overseas voters may return a voted ballot by US Mail or by fax. We understand that discontinuation of the DoD Fax Service may create a hardship for you. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes.
The Marin County Registrar of Voters may still accept a ballot by fax. Please check your area to find a fax service option that works for you. If you prefer to return your ballot by mail, we strongly recommend that you take the following actions:
- Talk with the mail carrier in your region and ask whether mail service to the United States is available.
- Check the status of your voter registration.
- Sign up for Where's My Ballot.
- Return your voted ballot by mail as soon as possible to avoid delays.
Under state law, you may not email a voted ballot.
Your right to vote is important to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out using the contact information below and we are more than happy to respond as soon as possible.
