Why a letter is necessary
If your project includes plumbing work, such as changes to sinks, floor sinks, floor drains or grease interceptors, you need to follow your local sanitary district’s rules about the size of the grease trap or interceptor.
Contact your local sanitary district and ask for a formal letter that states either:
- The size of the grease trap or interceptor your facility will use and the fixtures that must be connected to it OR
- Why your project is exempt from the requirement
Getting this letter can take time. Request it as soon as possible. We can't accept your application without this letter.
What if my project has a septic system?
You don’t need a letter from the sanitary district. Instead, you need to call our office to discuss. We will forward your request and assessment to our land use division for their approval. We can't approve your project without this approval.
