Project Description

The applicant requests Sign Review approval to authorize the installation of four wall signs associated with a commercial use (restaurant), three of which require after-the-fact approval. The four wall signs and the associated commercial use are located on a developed parcel in the community of Almonte, an unincorporated area of Mill Valley.

The first wall sign is located on the south elevation of the tenant space occupied by the commercial use. The sign appears to comprise two distinct text panels of horizontal lettering applied to an undifferentiated wall. The upper panel would display “East Brothers Beer Co.,” with “East Brothers” in stylized cursive lettering and “Beer Co.” in block lettering. The lower panel would display “Tam Tavern” in block lettering and include a directional arrow. The dimensional characteristics and materials comprising the sign cannot be determined from the application.

The second, third, and fourth wall signs, which require after-the-fact approval, are located on the east, west, and south elevations of an architectural element (chimney) projecting from the tenant space occupied by the commercial use. Each of the three signs appear to consist of a single vertical text panel, painted directly onto an undifferentiated wall, displaying “Beer” in blue block lettering. The dimensional characteristics of the signs cannot be determined from the application.

Sign Review approval is required pursuant to Marin County Development Code Section 22.60.020(A)(1)(3), as the proposed signage exceeds the number of signs permitted for a commercial use established in Marin County Development Code Section 22.28.040 (General Standards for Permanent Signs by Use).
