The Stinson Beach Adaptation and Resilience Collaboration (ARC)

This initiative helps the Stinson community and local agencies make informed adaptation decisions in response to sea level rise.

Now Available: The Stinson ARC Sea Level Rise Adaptation Study

Optional Content

The study looks at what Stinson Beach needs to do to prepare for sea level rise. It links those needs to an approach that outlines adaptation options that the Stinson Beach community can pursue, suggests possible funding sources, and outlines a plan to keep track of changes over time. This study builds on prior work completed under the Stinson ARC, including the updated vulnerability assessment and analysis of adaptation options.

A summary of the study was shared during a public meeting on June 11, 2025. You can review the meeting recording or check out the presentation for more information about the study findings.

New: Sea Level Rise Explorer

Review the interactive Sea Level Rise Explorer: Stinson Beach , which uses data from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) to model sea level rise impacts. This tool also includes sea level rise adaptation strategies outlined in the Stinson ARC Sea Level Rise Adaptation Study.

To use this tool, select a language and captioning preferences and then start exploring the shoreline. Click through the Sea Level Rise Explorer model for a visual of today’s high tides, future sea level rise projections, storm impacts, and potential adaptation measures from different vantage points in Stinson Beach.

What is the Stinson ARC?

Stinson Beach faces a growing threat from rising sea levels and flooding. The Stinson Beach ARC project explores adaptation options to reduce flood risk for the community, its natural areas, and for beach visitors.

Stinson ARC project goals:

  • Revise and update previous assessments with the latest available science.
  • Identify the environmental, social equity, economic, and feasibility of different adaptation approaches over time.
  • Help the Stinson community and local agencies make informed adaptation decisions.

The Stinson Beach ARC project started in the summer of 2022 and will go through 2025.
