Apply for a summer public sector law internship

Law students can apply for our summer law clerk program.

  • This position is open to current law students. 
  • Applications are considered on a rolling basis, but ones received by February 1 are reviewed first. 
  • Positions are offered on a volunteer or school-credit basis. 

Before you start

Attorneys with County Counsel practice civil law in many different areas, including land use, environmental law, torts, child welfare, health, and constitutional law. As a law clerk, you will be exposed to a diverse and dynamic civil legal practice.  

You will gain skills and experience in many areas, including: 

  • Law and motion practice 
  • Discovery 
  • Statutory analysis 
  • Writing legal memoranda 
  • Preparing witness examinations 
  • Interacting with expert witnesses  

Opportunities for court appearances are also available if you are certified to appear in court.

  1. Send an email to County Counsel with: 
    1. Your resume 
    2. Cover letter describing your interest in working with local government and any relevant experience 
    3. Writing sample 
    4. Unofficial law school transcript (if it’s your first year of law school, you can provide your grades when they are available)
