Fourth of July Parades in Marin County, Through August 14

Fourth of July parades, with roots in the late 18th century, have become one of America’s most enduring civic traditions. They mark independence with communal pride, historical reflection, and recognition of those who served, combining festive tradition with civic and national unity.

Since the early 20th century, Fourth of July parades across San Rafael, Mill Valley, and San Anselmo have woven together community pride, political engagement, honoring veterans, civic competitions, and shared entertainment like baseball, concerts, balls, and fireworks.

Today’s Marin County events echo this legacy with celebrations, including the Corte Madera–Larkspur parade, Homestead Valley picnic and parade, Sausalito parade and fireworks, Novato’s Buckaroo Breakfast and parade, the Ross parade, the Stinson Beach-Bolinas Fourth of July tug-of-war, and more. Across Marin, these local traditions have added up to something larger: a shared culture of celebration that remains very much alive.

Thank you to the Marin History Museum, the Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History, the Stinson Beach Historical Society, the San Geronimo Valley Historical Society, and the San Anselmo Historical Society for making this exhibit possible.

Formative Influence, August 19 - November 10

Formative Influence by Dylan Bartolini-Volk explores the transformative power of light across five bodies of work. Inspired by the landscapes of Northern California and the American West, the exhibition examines the shift from photography, where light is observed and captured, to painting, where light is created to shape new visual experiences. Rather than documenting the landscape, these works evoke its emotional resonance, emphasizing atmosphere, memory, and perception over literal representation.
