RE: S. 1547, America the Beautiful Act – support

Dear Senator Daines:

On behalf of the Marin County Board of Supervisors, I write in support of S. 1547, the America the Beautiful Act, which reauthorizes and strengthens the National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF). The bill restores this critical funding source through 2031, increases annual funding from $1.9 billion to $2 billion, and improves transparency and accountability to ensure continued investment in the maintenance and preservation of our nation's public lands.

Marin County is home to more than 143,000 acres of public lands, including the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Angel Island State Park. Continued investment in these public lands helps preserve nationally significant natural resources while supporting local tourism, recreation, and the quality of life for Marin residents. Federal funding is critical to support sustainable recreation, visitor services, park infrastructure, County roads within federal and state lands, utility infrastructure, and waste reduction in public lands, and other measures that mitigate impacts to adjacent West Marin communities.

We support S. 1547 because it provides the long-term federal investment needed to maintain and modernize our public lands while ensuring that the needs of communities are addressed. Reauthorizing the Legacy Restoration Fund will help ensure that treasured public land remains safe, accessible, and maintained for future generations.

Thank you for your leadership and consideration of this important legislation.

Sincerely,

Eric Lucan, President

Marin County Board of Supervisors
