RE: Bay Area Ridge National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study Act
Dear Representative Huffman:
On behalf of the Marin County Board of Supervisors, I write in support of H.R. 7254, which would charge the Secretary of the Interior with studying the potential designation of the Bay Area Ridge Trail as a national scenic trail. This study represents an important step toward evaluating the long-term benefits of recognizing one of the nation's premier regional trail systems while encouraging collaboration among federal, state, regional, and local partners.
Marin County has long recognized the value of the Bay Area Ridge Trail as both a recreational resource and a vital component of the region's network of protected open space. Within Marin, the Ridge Trail provides residents and visitors with access to nationally significant public lands, including portions of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mount Tamalpais State Park, Marin Municipal Water District lands, and county open space preserves.
The Ridge Trail also supports Marin County's longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and equitable access to outdoor recreation. Expanding and strengthening the regional trail network encourages healthy, active recreation, connects communities to nature, and supports local economies while fostering appreciation for the Bay Area's unique natural and cultural resources.
For these reasons, the Marin County Board of Supervisors supports H.R. 7254 and appreciates your leadership in advancing legislation that recognizes the significance of the Bay Area Ridge Trail and its importance to communities throughout the region.
