RE: AB 2313 Gas corporations: gas distribution service line replacements alternatives – support
Dear Assemblymembers Berman and Irwin,
On behalf of the Marin County Board of Supervisors, I write in support of your authored bill, AB 2313, that would require California gas utilities to offer customers whose gas service lines are scheduled for replacement the option to receive financial incentives to electrify their homes and permanently discontinue gas service instead of having the gas line replaced.
Marin County has long supported decarbonization efforts including:
- Efforts and subsidies to decarbonize the built environment;
- Effective leveraging of energy efficiency programs tailored to address local needs and concerns; and
- Adoption of the 2024 Marin County’s Building Electrification Roadmap in partnership with all of Marin’s cities and towns: and
- Streamlined ways to integrate renewable and greenhouse gas-free resources into the grid.
We support the bill’s aims to reduce long-term spending on aging gas infrastructure, lower future ratepayer costs, and support California’s transition to cleaner electric technologies.
Thank you for your leadership on this issue.
Sincerely,
Eric Lucan, President
Marin County Board of Supervisors
