RESOLUTION OF THE MARIN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 50 ON THE NOVEMBER 4, 2025 STATEWIDE BALLOT
WHEREAS, fair and representative congressional districts are essential to ensuring that all Californians have an equal voice in federal decision-making; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 50 was placed on the November 4, 2025 statewide ballot by the Legislature and Governor to provide a temporary process for drawing California’s congressional districts for the 2026 to 2030 elections, with authority returning to the Citizens Redistricting Commission following the 2030 Census; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 50 maintains California’s long-term commitment to independent, nonpartisan redistricting while responding to mid-cycle redistricting actions in other states; and
WHEREAS, Marin County would remain within California’s 2nd Congressional District should Proposition 50 be approved by voters, and the State has provided $250 million in the FY 2025-26 Budget to fully cover local election administration costs;
WHEREAS, Proposition 50 affirms California’s leadership in promoting national standards for redistricting by calling on U.S. Congress to establish fair, independent, and nonpartisan commissions nationwide; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Marin County Board of Supervisors hereby supports Proposition 50 and urges residents to vote “YES” on November 4, 2025, to protect fair representation for Californians while reaffirming the state’s commitment to independent redistricting in future decades.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Marin held on this 30th day of September, 2025, by the following vote:
