Body of News Release

Marin County, CA – Starting in December, nonprofit agencies and other community-based organizations all over Marin County will receive funding from the County of Marin following annual allocations from the Community Grants and Investment Program

The Board of Supervisors approved $1.65 million from the program during its November 4 meeting, and the 94 award winners will soon sign contracts to accept the money.

The allocation was higher than last year and included a one-time $500,000 allotment from the Board of Supervisors in recognition of the challenges many nonprofit and community organizations were facing because of changes in federal policies. The distributions range from $1,500 to $50,000, with all money devoted to one-time projects in 2026 that address community needs and advance Board priorities: affordable housing, equity, disaster preparedness, climate resilience, community vitality, and infrastructure.

The County received 177 applications with requests totaling $6,322,310. All applications were reviewed by County staff in several departments and supervisorial district offices, plus a representative from the Marin Community Foundation.

The County launched its new CGIP in summer 2025, combining two similar programs and adding a more accessible and transparent path to funding local projects that benefit Marin residents. The application period ended September 2. Eligible applicants included 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofits as well as tax-exempt community groups with a fiscal sponsor.

The CGIP application period for the 2027 calendar year is expected to open in July 2026. For more information, visit the County of Marin’s nonprofit funding opportunities webpage.
