Marin County, CA District 5 Supervisor Eric Lucan, who represents the majority of the City of Novato and its unincorporated communities, has been selected by his colleagues to serve as President of the Marin County Board of Supervisors for 2026. The Board voted on the annual leadership roles during its January 20 reorganization meeting.

As Board President, Lucan will preside over meetings, approve final agendas, and serve as the Board’s presiding officer throughout the year.

The Board’s first meeting of 2026 was held at the Marin Center Showcase Theater, the temporary home for the Board while audio-visual upgrades are completed in the Civic Center Board Chamber.

During the meeting, Lucan accepted the transition of leadership from District 1 Supervisor Mary Sackett, who completed her term as Board President in 2025. As part of the annual reorganization, District 3 Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters was selected as First Vice President, and District 2 Supervisor Brian Colbert was named Second Vice President.

Lucan joined the Board of Supervisors in January 2023 after being elected in June 2022 to succeed the retiring Judy Arnold. Prior to his service on the Board, Lucan built a career in both public service and the private sector. He served four years on the Novato Parks and Recreation Commission before being elected to the Novato City Council in 2011. He later served as Mayor of Novato in 2014, 2019, and 2022. Before becoming a full-time elected official, Lucan worked as a marketing executive, including eight years as Chief Marketing Officer for Mike’s Bikes.

As Board President this year, Lucan will lead Supervisors in exercising fiscal responsibility while advancing the County’s top priorities of affordable housing and permanent supportive housing, race equity, climate change and sea level rise, disaster preparedness, county infrastructure, and community and economic vitality.

“In uncertain times across the country, we need unwavering supports around the county,” Lucan said. “I look forward to working together with my Board colleagues, community partners, and most importantly the 2,500-plus employees at the County of Marin to best serve our community with respect, accountability, and a commitment to improve the quality of life for ALL residents.”

The Board of Supervisors meets two to three times per month on Tuesday mornings, typically beginning at 9 AM. Meetings are held in person and via videoconference to support public access and participation. During renovations to the Civic Center’s Board Chamber, meetings will be held at the Showcase Theater for the first few months of 2026.

Board meetings are televised live on Comcast/Xfinity Channel 27 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99 and are livestreamed on MarinCounty.gov. Meeting agendas and archived videos dating back to 2005 are also available on the County’s website.
