Who we are

The five members of the Board of Supervisors serve as the legislative and executive body of Marin County. Supervisors are elected by district to serve a four-year term. 

What we do

The Board of Supervisors has the overall responsibility for the function of county government. 

  • The Board serves as the governing board of many special districts such as Marin County Open Space District, Marin Transit, and the Marin Housing Authority.
  • The Board passes all ordinances governing the county and is responsible for seeing that mandated functions are properly discharged.
  • The Board adopts the County budget; sets employee salaries and directs a wide variety of services to county residents.
