Re: Support for Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) for the building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant for San Geronimo Treatment Plant Clarifiers Seismic Mitigation Reconstruction Project

Dear Administrator Criswell,

The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) is applying for a Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant for their MMWD San Geronimo Treatment Plant Clarifiers Seismic Mitigation Reconstruction Project.

The San Geronimo Treatment Plant is a critical community lifeline with the capacity to provide potable water to all of the more than 192,000 residents in Marin County that receive water from MMWD. The proposed project would seismically retrofit the plant’s clarifiers, which are settling tanks built with mechanical means for continuous removal of solids being deposited by sedimentation. Increasing the seismic resiliency of the San Geronimo Treatment Plant is vital to ensure service of safe, clean potable water to the treatment plant’s 192,000 customers are not interrupted by a seismic event.

The Marin County Board of Supervisors supports the important infrastructure resiliency and mitigation efforts that will be accomplished with this project.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Moulton-Peters, President
Marin County Board of Supervisors
